COL(R) Mead '57 Still Guided by Department Principles

The Academy welcomed back COL(R) Dana Mead and his wife, Nancy, for a faculty seminar and interview with the Center for Oral History. COL Mead previously served in the Department of Social Sciences as the Deputy Head from 1974 -1978 and Acting Head during AY75-76. Following his retirement from the Army, COL Mead began a business career, first at International Paper and then as President, Chair, and CEO of Tenneco, a financially troubled conglomerate. During his discussion with faculty, COL Mead explained how the Department’s principles of "Be Kind" and "Doctrine of No Surprises" continued to guide his leadership style throughout his years as a business executive.
