Fly Fishing Trip to Manchester, VermontNine cadets had some wonderful fishing opportunities with new experiences. The group was hosted by longtime supporters of the club, Mr. and Mrs. Leigh and Julie Oliva. The cadets were able to fish four different bodies of water and included a day on a lake where the cadets were able to try fly fishing from four different types of watercraft. The fishing areas included the Roaring Branch, the Battenkill, a small pond, and Lake Sommerset. All cadets caught numerous fish and many cadets caught their first fish of a new species. Brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, smallmouth bass, bluegill, and yellow perch were the species caught. Cadets also visited the American Museum of Fly Fishing to see the history and evolution of fly fishing and the equipment. The club is very grateful to their hosts and all the effort they put into this event. Trips like this are possible because support and donations which provide equipment and transportation. Staff and faculty volunteering their time rounds out the critical resources used.
