On August 19, the Class of 2020 Affirmed its Commitment to the Profession of Arms. Cadets took the Oath of Affirmation, binding them to complete their next two years of study and a minimum of five years of active-duty military service thereafter.
LTG(R) James J. Lovelace Jr. '70 spoke to the new cadet sergeants about this significant milestone. USMA 2020 Class President Joshua Phillips presented General Lovelace with a commemorative engraved saber. 34 members of the Class of 1970, the cows' 50-Year Affiliation class, were on hand to present members of the Class of 2020 with a joint class commemorative coin symbolizing their new professional bond, and to be the first to welcome them to the profession of arms.
Prior to the Affirmation Ceremony, the Class of 1970 gathered for a celebratory dinner at WPAOG with USMA 2020 Class officers. Diners and guests enjoyed the lovely fountain and terrace at WPAOG that the Class has gifted to the Long Gray Line. The USMA 1970 motto, "Serve with Integrity" is engraved on the terrace, and the Class posed for photos with USMA 2020 officers around this motto.
