The New Jersey Field Force in conjunction with Seton Hall University hosted an Ethics and Leadership Conference at Seton Hall University for local JROTC and Civil Air Patrol students earlier this month. The purpose of the conference was to help high school students confront the ethical challenges of honesty, integrity, giving and receiving respect, leadership and decision making. There were three seminars, honesty/integrity, respect and leadership. The instructors were Civil Air Patrol officers and New Jersey Field Force members.
There were two keynote speakers. Mr. Jerry Walker, a Seton Hall graduate and three-time NCAA basketball and Big East tournament starter. Today he helps thousands of inner city children through "Team Walker. The other speaker was Ms. Mikie Sherrill a Naval Academy graduate and former helicopter pilot. She spent 10 years in the Navy not only flying helicopters but also as the flag aide to the Deputy Commander US Fleet.
The conference started with presentation from all the Academies to include a presentation on West Point by CPT Reed Caradine, USMA Diversity South West Outreach Officer and 1LT Raphael Waruinge, USMA Diversity Outreach Officer, North East Region. Here are some comments from the students: "I learned the value of respecting each other even if people are strangers to me"; "I learned the pillars of what make a good leader"; "I learned about unconscious biases and how I must be more aware in the future of my judgement of people"; "How to make the right choice no matter how hard it is.". Thank you Henry Schwartzstein '71 for all of your efforts in organizing this event.
