Lesson 40 in General Chemistry I is an exciting time. For the third year in a row, CH101 cadets were exposed to cutting edge science and engineering during the Military Chemistry (MILCHEM) enrichment presented by personnel from Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton, NJ; Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet, NY; and the 2nd Civil Support Team from the NY National Guard in Schenectady, NY. Cadets witnessed applications of the concepts they learned about over the course of the semester. MILCHEM provides a direct connection between the intellectual capital at USMA and premier Army Research Laboratories. Cadets routinely discover aspects of chemistry that they are interested in during the MILCHEM enrichment that translate to Academic Individual Advanced Development’s (AIAD) over the summer and develop into projects they pursue for their entire cadet careers and beyond.
