Department of Systems Engineering capstone team of cadets Chris Wagner, Robbie Fenton, Jordan Nettles, and Richie Hernandez conducted a field experiment in USMA training area, Range 11, for the effectiveness of cyber and EW systems to support soldier survivability by defeating enemy drones. The client for this experiment was TRADOC Capabilities Manager, Soldier. A government cyber system and a commercial jamming system participated, while Stevens Institute of Technology provided a data collection and analysis capability. The experiment validated technical performance measures for a candidate system and informed the tradeoff between counter-UAS effectiveness and soldier load. All test participants commended the cadet team for the effective design of the test, their flexibility during execution, and the quick turn for data analysis. Visitors from the Army Cyber Institute and Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science viewed parts of this experiment. It also served as a pilot for conducting larger scale experiments and assessments of technologies in the training area.
