Fourteen cadets and two civilian faculty attended a writing workshop on Army evaluations led by LTC Alan Brown. Because Army Officers face unique writing situations that have significant career implications for their subordinates, most notably writing evaluations, LTC Brown developed this workshop to familiarize cadets with techniques and strategies to help them write effective evaluations as Second Lieutenants. Working from a range of examples, LTC Brown engaged cadets in critical dialogues that addressed how to match bulleted comments to evaluation scoring; the importance of crafting specific, number-oriented comments that precisely and concisely deliver fair, quantifiable portraits of subordinate performance; and, tips for dealing with various difficult situations. The workshop included practical writing exercises along with extensive question-and-answer work.
