Johnston, Stewart Recognized by Patriot League

CDTs Amy Johnston '18 and Samantha Stewart '20Army West Point women's lacrosse firstie Amy Johnston and yearling Samantha Stewart were recognized by the Patriot League for their efforts throughout the 2018 season on Monday afternoon. Johnston was named to the All-Patriot League First Team as an attacker, while Stewart earned All-Patriot League Second Team accolades as a midfielder. Both players collected their first postseason honors from the league, while Johnston became the first cadet-athlete to be named to the first team.

Johnston was a dominant force both in the offensive zone and on the draw for the Black Knights. Her single-season program record of 85 draw controls was the third-highest total in the Patriot League, while her average of 5.0 draws per game placed her third in the league and 33rd nationally. The Salt Lake City, Utah, native scored a season-high five goals against Siena as one of three 30-point scorers for Army and one of six players with at least 20 goals.

Stewart produced her best offensive season on the banks of the Hudson, setting personal bests in points (28), goals (24) and game-winning goals (two). The New Canaan, Conn., native finished second on the team with 47 draw controls and tied for the second-most goals. She was Army's most efficient free position shooter, going 12-for-19 (.632 percent) and ranking tied for 22nd in the country in free position percentage.
