Three Cadets Garner First Team All-League Nods

CDTs Johnny Surdick '19 Jon LaMonica '18 and David Symmes '18Three members of the Army West Point men's lacrosse team garnered First Team All-Patriot League honors, announced by the league on Monday. Johnny Surdick, Jon LaMonica and David Symmes were all voted to the first team. The Major Awards and All-League teams were voted on by the nine Patriot League head coaches who could not vote for their student-athletes and selves. Surdick and Symmes were selected to the first team for the second year in a row, while this is LaMonica's first postseason accolade. For the second straight year, Surdick, from Odenton, Md., led the Black Knights' defense in caused turnovers. He averaged 2.13 per game in conference games to rank third in the Patriot League and added 41 groundballs this season while guarding the opponent's biggest offensive threat each week. Surdick tallied four assists in 2018 which was a career-high. LaMonica, who hails from Cazenovia, N.Y., was a standout for the Black Knights this season with a team-leading 32 groundballs and 12 caused turnovers. He was a force on the wings during faceoffs alongside Surdick to help the team to a .522 faceoff percentage. The senior co-captain scored the first goals of his career this season and added an assist for a total of three points.
