Melanie Allen of the Army West Point women's tennis team collected Patriot League Female Player of the Week honors after leading the Black Knights to a 2-0 showing in the final week of the 2018 regular season. This the first time Allen has been recognized by the league this season and the second time in her career. The Cape Coral, Fla., native competed to a 2-0 record at the No. 2 singles position and went 1-1 in the top doubles flight against Lehigh and Boston U. She defeated Lehigh's Paula Gonzalez on Friday (7-5, 4-6, 6-4) and Boston's Remi Ramos (4-6, 6-2, 7-6(4)) on Sunday to clinch the match versus the Terriers. It was Allen's first career win over a player from BU and it marked the second year in a row that Army beat the Terriers in the regular season finale after previously being winless in the first 13 meetings. Allen was one of three Cadets to go 2-0 in singles on the weekend, along with plebe Ana Joyner and cow Kirby Einck. She also set personal bests for singles wins in a season at 18, in addition to posting her first 20-win season in doubles action. The Black Knights begin postseason play by hosting the Patriot League tournament as the 2-seed from Thursday through Sunday at the Lichtenberg and Malek Tennis Centers. Army's first match will be on Friday in the quarterfinals against 7-seed Lafayette at 4 p.m.
