Cadets Sydney Volenec '19, Alexander Belardo-Flowers '19, Hunter Whitney '19, Georgia Cervantes '20, and Aaron Salinas '20, along with MAJ Jeremy Hershfield as the Officer in Charge (OIC) of West Point Pre-Medical Society, attended the annual American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Convention & Exposition in Crystal City, VA. Volenec, Belardo-Flowers, and Whitney are Life Science majors who will take the MCAT exam this summer as part of their applications for medical school in the fall. Upon arrival at the AMSA convention, the group attended a riveting speech on the future of medical research by Dr. Francis Collins, former leader of the Human Genome Project and the current director of the National Institutes of Health. Subsequent daily activities included various pre-medical workshops, MCAT preparation, and medical training & simulations.
