Yearling Samantha Stewart and plebe Lauren Bredenburg of the Army West Point women's lacrosse team were recognized as this week's Patriot League Midfielder and Rookie of the Week. It was Stewart's first midfielder of the week recognition and second career weekly award after being tabbed the rookie of the week last season. Bredenburg picked up her first career honor from the league and Army's second rookie of the week following when Megan Raftery was named it on Feb. 12. Stewart scored a game-high five points and four goals in the Black Knights' 17-8 win over American on Saturday, marking the first home win over a Patriot League opponent in program history. Both her points and goals were career highs for the New Canaan, Conn., native, while she tied her previous personal best of seven draw controls. Bredenburg recorded a game-high six ground balls and caused three turnovers in the historic victory, marking the third time this year that the Hampstead, Md., native notched at least three of each. The rookie defender set a new single game high for the team with her six ground balls, while her three caused turnovers marked just the fourth time this season an Army player has reached that mark.
