About a dozen cadets and faculty attended a Wednesday Night Workshop led by CPT(P) Jessica Dawson to discuss principles for effectively structuring stories, working as editors, and a gamut of issues related to creative writing. CPT Dawson drew on over a decade's experience publishing work in New York Times, PBS POV, and other forums to deliver her presentation and engage in a lengthy question-and-answer session with cadets. Topics included the distinctions between literary and genre fiction, revising through reverse outlining, how to approach publishers, how to make time for writing, the relationship of creative writing processes to academic writing, and much more. The MWC holds Wednesday Night Workshops virtually every Wednesday, 2000-2100, in JH301; most are designed for cadets, but anyone is welcome to attend. A full schedule is available at usma.edu/wpwp.
