Kosciuszko Squadron Honor LTG Rowny '41Kosciuszko Squadron Polish Culture Forum Cadets participated in funeral services and wake in Washington, D.C. honoring Distinguished USMA Graduate LTG (R) Edward Rowny '41. General Rowny, was founder of the Squadron and an active sponsor since its re-establishment in 2005. Just last spring the Forum helped him celebrate his 100th birthday, an embodiment of the Polish birthday wish, Sto lat! - “may you live to a hundred!” During his long life, LTG Rowny played a significant role in US military and foreign affairs, as well as in US-Polish relations. A decorated veteran of WWII, Korea and Viet Nam, he advised three presidents during the START and SALT talks with the USSR. The General advocated actively for the celebration of Polish Culture his entire life. Most recently, at his instigation, West Point and the military university in Wroclaw, Poland created a cadet exchange. Following funeral services for the General, cadets walked with the official procession. At the General’s wake, cadets interacted with members of the Polish community, including the Polish Defense Attaché, several USMA graduates and war veterans. At the end of solemnities, fulfilling a request the General made before his death, cadets led the hundred or so guests in singing of the Alma Mater.
