Cadets in Rabat, Morocco began their immersion experience by meeting their Moroccan host families, whose generosity in opening their homes greatly enriches cadets' cultural learning while studying abroad. The cadets attended orientation week at AMIDEAST and began to explore the city of Rabat. They also enjoyed their first traditional couscous lunch with their host families. AMIDEAST provided the cadets with a tour of Rabat's significant sites, guided by Professor Rashid Tutu. This experience helped the cadets gain a sense of the city's rich cultural past as well as its rich and diverse present. Morocco is a highly complex society, influenced by a colonial past as well as enormous geographic and anthropological diversity. Its methods for melding many differing lifestyles and cultures together will be fascinating to observe over the coming semester.
