Surdick Named PL Preseason Defender of the Year

With the season just over a week away, the Patriot League preseason poll has been announced with Army picked to finish second on the list. Cow long pole defender Johnny Surdick captured Preseason Defensive Player of the Year accolades and was joined by David Symmes on the Preseason All-Patriot League team. The preseason poll and individual awards were voted on by the men's lacrosse coaches and sports information directors from each institution, with restrictions of voting for their own team and student-athletes. With the 14 first-place votes, the reigning Patriot League Champions Loyola look to repeat as the League's top team, totaling 126 points in the preseason poll. The Black Knights received four first-place votes and totaled 115 points to check in as the second team in the poll. Surdick who was a 2017 USILA Honorable Mention All-American and All-Patriot League First Team selection will lead the Black Knights' defensive unit this season. He led the squad with 1.93 caused turnovers per game which ranked him 10th nationally. Surdick also recorded 42 ground balls. Read More
