Fireside Chat with Demetriouse Russell

Excel Scholar cadets and faculty attended the third Fireside Chat of the 2018 academic year. The guest speaker was Demetriouse Russell, Managing Director and Founder of Venn Diagram Partners. Venn Diagram is a global consulting collaborative specializing in leadership development, executive coaching and diversity and inclusion. Russell centered his talk around the concept of being an agent for change in a community. He challenged the audience with the question "who are you as a possibility in the community?" He made the point that cadets do not come to USMA to "play small," as they have a real opportunity to effect change on a world-wide scale. Russell argued that a leader championing new ideas or concepts must enroll members of the community to rally behind the cause, emphasizing the need for leaders to focus not on "I," but on "we."
