Yearling Ben Petrella of the Army West Point men's cross country team has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League team, announced by the organization on Friday. Voting was conducted by the league's 10 cross country sports information contacts who could not vote for their own student-athletes. The Liverpool, N.Y., native is chemical engineering major at the academy and holds a 4.003 grade-point average. He also is a recipient of the Superintendent's Award for Excellence. Petrella helped the team to a championship at the Patriot League meet, the first for Army since 2008. He earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors with a 12th-place finish at the championship meet, clocking a time of 24:42.40.
