Cadets attend the Army Research Lab Technical Symposium Every year, Army Research Laboratory hosts the Technical Symposium to highlight the significant research that the laboratory and its affiliates conducted within the past year. Twenty-five cadets attended this Symposium to meet with distinguished guests, interact with technical leaders, and present their research from Academic Individual Advanced Development (AIADs) or individual studies. From the cadets, 3 were members of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science: CDTs Samuel Miller '18, Madison Stark '18, and Benjamin Baumgartner '19. CDT Stark presented her work on Smart Sensing Node technology (SSN), where individual nodes can be installed to measure voltage and current to calculate phasor data for a system. CDT Miller conducted an individual study with the goal of accurately estimating the state-of-charge of the BB-2590, a military smart battery that is employed on the ground vehicle robot (GVR-Bot) platform. After working alongside cadets from the class of 2017, CDT Miller was the lead author of the paper, "A Dynamic Ensemble for Estimating the State-of-Charge of Interchangeable Robot Batteries." This paper was the culmination of his semester's worth of research and it will be published after his presentation at the 2017 MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference.
