26 Cadets (9 teams with majors ranging from Math to History to Kinesiology) competed for 99 continuous hours, representing USMA in the in 32nd Annual Mathematics Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM), an international mathematics competition (one of only 3 world-wide) in which teams were tasked to research and model one of the following problems: managing the Zambezi River (decide whether to repair, rebuild or removing/replace the Kariba Dam); merge after toll (design of toll plazas); cooperate and navigate (effects of self-driving cars on roads);– optimizing the passenger throughput at an airport security checkpoint; sustainable cities needed! (implement smart growth theories); migration to Mars (create a sustainable society by maximizing GDP and happiness). West Point has been competing in this competition for over 30 years, and this year like in past years, was represented well by this outstanding group of cadets. The results of the competition will be released in the spring.
