Fencing Outreach at Hunter College

The Army West Point Fencing Team travelled to New York City as part of their outreach effort to support the CUNY Hunter College Homecoming where all sports are represented in one evening of competition. The team is the only Fencing Team invited annually to this event. Several Cadets sang the National Anthem for the event, it is an honor for the team to be chosen to do so. Afterwards, Hunter College provides a stack of pizzas for the Cadets to enjoy as thanks. In the Fencing Dual Meet portion, this is the first time in 10 years that the Army West Point Fencing Team defeated both the Hunter College Men’s and Women’s Fencing Teams by scores of 14-13 for the men and 15-12 for the women, both teams were undefeated at the event. Highlights for the Women’s Team: CDT Sharpsten at 2-1 in Women’s Sabre; CDT Yang at 3-0 and CDT Weigel at 3-0 in Women’s Epee; CDT Sun at 3-0 and CDT Yi at 2-1 in Women’s Foil. Highlights for the Men’s Team: CDT Griffin at 2-1, CDT Kurtzahn at 3-0 and CDT Knapp at 2-1 in Men’s Foil; CDT Johnson at 3-0 in Men’s Epee; CDT Papa at 2-1 in Men’s Sabre.
