The West Point Cadet Investment Club, and the Class of 2018 Cadet Treasurer, hosted nearly 30 financial professionals recently for the Academy's first annual Financial Education Day. Several members of the Financial Planning Association's Greater Hudson Valley Chapter volunteered to help make this event a tremendous success. Over 140 cadets attended classes given by industry experts on: passive vs. active investing, basic investment products, managing personal finances, retirement saving and the Thrift Savings Plan, home buying, understanding credit, and behavioral finance. Over 60 cadets also met with a Certified Financial Planner professional for a one on one session to learn more about their own personal financial situation. Economics faculty members will follow up with each member of the Class of 2018 in the coming weeks to provide an additional personal finance refresher as members of the Cow class sign for the optional career starter loan.
