28 Cadets from the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering’s Vibrations Engineering course (MC486) spent an afternoon learning about acoustic principles with SFC Branden Lane from the USMA Band. This learning experience gave cadets the opportunity to relate the vibration principles they learned throughout the course toward a new context. After orienting the cadets to the basic physical principles governing musical instrument operation, SFC Lane explained how physical space may affect sound quality. The lab culminated with SFC Lane demonstrating how modern mixing software can be used to enhance the quality of a person’s singing.
