The Department of Mathematical Sciences hosted Mr. Brian Burke, Senior Analyst at ESPN, for a series of guest lectures on sports analytics. Mr. Burke is USNA class of 1993, and a former FA-18 pilot. He specializes in the use of Bayes theorem to inform NFL draft decisions as well as analysis of in-game probability-of-victory decisions. In addition to his work with ESPN, he serves as a consultant for several NFL teams. Mr. Burke visited sections of MA206 and MA371, and he presented a seminar to a combined audience of over 30 faculty members and nearly 40 cadets.
