Fencing at the Annual Vassar Dual Meet

The Army West Point Fencing Team travelled to Vassar College to take part in the annual dual meet season opener and was the only club team invited to this all varsity team event. The Men split the day with a record of 3-5 defeating Hunter, Yeshiva and Lafayette by very close scores (14-13, 16-11, 14-13). CDT Papa ranked high for the Men in the weapon of Sabre with a record of 15-9, with cadets Pleake and Gastello rounding out the squad, which also went on to defeat Sacred Heart by a score of 7-2 (the first time West Point defeated Sacred Heart in Sabre). CDT Johnson finished at 0.500 for the Men in the weapon of Epee. The Women had one of their best days at the season opener finishing 4-2, defeating Incarnate Word, Queens College, Yeshiva and City College of NY by scores of 14-13, 18-9, 24-3, and 20-7. CDT Sun won first place as the highest finish for a woman at the competition with a record of 17-1. CDT Yang in the weapon of epee had a record of 13-4, and CDT Wiegel at 9-7 for the day. The Women’s Sabre Squad completed the day at 4-2, one of the highest finishes for a weapon, with CDT Sharpsten coming in at 15-3, CDT Peace at 11-7 and CDT Schroeder garnering a record of 9-9.
