CLS Cadets Attend ABRCMSThree Life Science majors presented their research at the 16th Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABCRMS) in Tampa, FL. Notably, two USMA cadets were selected for partial travel grants to support their conference attendance. One of the largest undergraduate conferences in the nation, ABRCMS featured over 1,800 students presenting and discussing their research within several biomedical disciplines. Cadet Isham (PIR ’18) spearheads the group of research cadets as they investigate various aspects of a military relevant bacteria, Acinetobacter baumannii. Cadet Zhu (D/CLS ’19), a travel award recipient, presented “Relationship Between Surface Roughness and Biofilm Formation of Acinetobacter baumannii”. Cadet Obiomon (D/CLS ’19), also a travel award recipient, presented “The Epidemiology of the Transmission of Acinetobacter in the Deployed Military Environment”. Cadet Volenec, (D/CLS ’19) presented her work on “Developing a Model Method to Assess Biofilm Formation”. Upon conclusion of the 4-day conference, CDT Zhu was recognized during the awards ceremony for his outstanding poster presentation in the microbiology category.
