Cadets in NE300 Nuclear Engineering recently had the opportunity to tour the nuclear reactors at the Indian Point Energy Center (IPEC) in Buchanan, NY. This trip section is conducted every semester for NE300 and gives cadets a chance to see the principles of nuclear engineering applied on an industrial scale. Both NE majors and those enrolled in the NE sequence got to participate. It is valuable for all cadets, regardless of their major, to learn about the commercial nuclear power industry. Visiting an operating nuclear power plant is the best way to expose cadets to the scale of the operation as well as the layers of security and safety measures in place.
