Cadets from West Point’s three diversity-based engineering clubs joined forces at Vail’s Gate Science Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) Academy Parents Night. Cadets from the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) along with faculty from the Center for Leadership and Diversity in STEM (CLDSTEM) conducted several small workshops for the elementary-age students. The students participated in interactive workshops that focused on the importance of creativity, critical thinking, and design in STEM. During the workshop, the cadets worked with small groups of children through many different activities all designed to challenge students in STEAM fields. The workshop allowed for students and parents to interact with cadets and learn about West Point, the Army, and STEAM in practical applications.
