Equestrian Hosts a Zone 3 Region 3 IHSA

Army West Point Equestrian hosted a Zone 3 Region 3 IHSA English Hunter Seat competition at Centenary College. Cadets competed against athletes from Centenary University, Drew University, Marist College, Sarah Lawrence College, SUNY New Paltz, Stevens Institute of Technology, Vassar College, and William Paterson. The team finished fourth overall, only one point behind the third-place team. Early in the show, Charlotte Hereford ’20 won first place in Novice Equitation over Fences and Merle Kreye ’17, (German exchange cadet) placed third in Intermediate Equitation over Fences. Hereford would later place third in Novice Equitation on the Flat and Kreye would go on to place second in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat. Matilda Brady ’19 also placed third in Novice Equitation on the Flat. Robert Seals ’20 took first place in Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation, his second consecutive win of the season. In Walk/Trot Equitation, Mike Murray ’17 won first place and Kyle Many ’17 placed second. Also worth recognizing are those cadets who competed at new levels this week. Matilda Brady completed in Novice Equitation over Fences, her first class over fences; Charlotte Hereford also competed in Novice Equitation over Fences and on the Flat for the first time. Katie Silecchia ’19 competed in Novice Equitation on the Flat for the first time, and Madeline Suba competed in her first Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation class. In addition to the equestrian events, the team competed in an intercollegiate costume contest in observance of Halloween.
