The Army West Point wrestling team opened the season with a solid performance at the Southeast Open, hosted by Virginia Tech, on Sunday. 39 Black Knights competed in the season-opening tournament, including 16 making their collegiate debuts. Army posted an overall record of 96-68 with 31 bonus-point wins (16 falls, 11 tech. falls and four major decisions). The Black Knights went 5-11 against ranked opponents. Army had the most freshman/sophomore podium finishes with nine and were second in the open bracket with six. Senior team co-captain Logan Everett pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the opening weekend, taking down fifth-ranked Joey Ward from North Carolina, 7-4, in the 141-pound semifinals. Senior co-captain Russ Parsons claimed the 157-pound open title by going 5-0 with a technical fall and a major decision. Freshman Ben Harvey claimed the 174-pound freshman/sophomore title by going 5-0 with one major decision. Freshman Noah Hanau pinned Austin Emerson in 50 seconds, the fastest pin for a Cadet since Brian Harvey did so against Eric Fimbers of the Gateway Bible Institute in 0:19 last season on Dec. 4 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
