Chief Joseph Pfeifer, chief of Counterterrorism and Emergency Preparedness in the New York Fire Department and a CTC senior fellow, spoke to cadets taking SS464: Homeland Security and Defense during Dean's Hour. Chief Pfeifer discussed the importance of leadership and the decision-making process during times of crisis. Chief Pfeifer was the first chief at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, and he provided the cadets with an in-depth look at his thought process during that difficult time. Chief Pfeifer also discussed the important lessons that were learned from that crisis, which were put into action during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, and he outlined his perspectives on potential attacks against the homeland that will require the cadets’ leadership.
