Richard Cincotta, Director, Global Political Demography Program at The Stimson Center presented a lunchtime lecture to cadets in the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering that focused on the use of demography to make long-range intelligence forecasts. Over the past decade, demographic research supported by the National Intelligence Council has used age-structural data to better understand, and to predict, statistical aspects of the behavior of today’s modern states. Using these conclusions, the lecture reviewed a set of key “behavioral rules” and geopolitical patterns that provides US military strategists with a glimpse of geopolitics, a decade or two into the future.
