CDT Alex Laval-Leyva ’17, a Philosophy Honors major, made a forthright and well-received presentation on the topic “Internet Access as a Human Right” at the third annual meeting of the Mid-Hudson Philosophy Society. The all-day meeting this year was held at SUNY New Paltz. The Mid-Hudson Philosophy Society brings together faculty and philosophy students from West Point and four other regional institutions: Bard, Marist, SUNY New Paltz, and Vassar. At the morning session, Columbia University Prof. Christia Mercer spoke on the distinct but unrecognized contributions women made to philosophical thought from the 15th to 18th Centuries. During the afternoon session, Philosophy majors from each of the five institutions presented their work for discussion. Five cadets and six Philosophy faculty attended from West Point. The Society will meet at Bard College in 2017, then at Marist the following year, before returning to West Point in 2019 to begin the second cycle.
