The History Department took a group of cadets on the Counter-Culture Staff Ride to examine the movement in New York City during the 1960s and 70s. Led by CPT Ben Flores, CPT Ben Griffin, and Professor Amanda Boczar, Cadets discussed the Beat Generation in Washington Square Park before moving through Greenwich Village to discuss music and its role in protest. The group then went to the Stonewall Inn to discuss the Gay Rights movement. In the afternoon, the staff ride went to the Museum of Modern Art to see how artists sought to challenge mainstream culture before ending the day at Strawberry Fields in Central Park to talk about the death of John Lennon and the commercialization of counter-culture.
