Cycling Hosts Race in Port Jervis

Army West Point Cycling TeamThe team as a whole worked to improve upon technical mountain skills in the rocky hills of Vermont as they navigated technical and steep terrain. CDT Sarah Morrow revealed her grit as she took to the trails for her first mountain bike race. CDT Preston Pritchard showed his fortitude and progress for the upcoming Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals in October. CDT Alex Dietrich and CDT Sarah LaRue finally joined the team on mountain for the first time this year, showing true promise for coming races, to include the first Army West Point Cycling Team hosted mountain bike race. Cycling shined hosting their 1st mountain bike race at Port Jervis, NY and Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, NJ. 20 collegiate schools and over 100 riders participated over the weekend. The Mayor, city council members, legislators and many significant community leaders came out to cheer and assist. The team showed exceptional character, professionalism and resilience when hosting the race. Everyone on the team contributed greatly to the overall success of the weekend by facilitating race courses and providing support for racers. The mountain riders on the team displayed their tenacity to push their limits both physically and mentally. The team finished 2nd in team omnium for the weekend. Top finishers for the team include Tristan Manderfeld ’17 placing 4th in STXC, Jacob Murdock ’20 3rd in XC, Preston Pritchard ’18 2nd in Enduro, and Dan Forquer ’17 placed 4th in Enduro and Downhill racing.
