US Circuit Court Judge Renna Raggi visited with cadets in the Advanced Constitutional Law seminar taught by Department of Law Professor and Constitutional Law Chair, Tony DiSarro. Judge Raggi was appointed to the federal appeals court by President George W. Bush in 2002 and serves on the Second Circuit, located in Manhattan. Prior to that, she was a federal district court judge, having been appointed by President Reagan in 1987. She also served as the US Attorney in the Eastern District of New York. Judge Raggi had a lively discussion with the cadets about the Establishment Clause and two decisions she authored regarding that constitutional provision. The first concerned New York City’s Holiday Display Policy applicable to public schools, while the second related to the placement of the historic artifact called The Cross at Ground Zero in the National September 11 Museum in downtown Manhattan.
