Cadets in the USMA Native American Heritage Forum attended the FDR Powwow and Native American Festival at FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights, NY. The event, sponsored by the Redhawk Native American Arts Council, is one of the region’s largest powwows and also one of the last in the summer season. The powwow provided cadets the opportunity to understand the culture and traditions of the participating Native American tribes, specifically in food, music, and dance. Cadets Hollis Shoptaw, Nicholas Ges, and Gray Sasser participated in the intertribal dance and were also honored during the ceremony for their service to the Nation. LTC Jay Ware, Forum OIC, and Cadet Shoptaw were honored in a musical tribute to veterans along with other veterans attending the powwow.
