The Portuguese Club Celebrates Brazil's Independence

Eight cadets from the Portuguese Language Club, led by CIC CDT Mackenzie Williams, and eight Brazilian Army Exchange Cadets attended a reception in celebration of the 194th anniversary of Brazil’s Declaration of Independence. The Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce hosted the reception, which also included the Brazilian Consular General in New York, Ana Lucy Gentil Cabral Petersen, and the Senior Military Official from the Brazilian Mission to the UN, Brigadier General Luiz Carlos Terciotti. The primary goal of the trip was to promote cultural interaction and language practice in context for the cadets, as they interacted with Brazilian government officials and Chamber of Commerce leadership. Through their knowledge of Portuguese language and Brazilian culture, the cadets were able to speak confidently and professionally with the Brazilian officials and learn more about their roles at the UN. The Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce gave special recognition to the visiting Brazilian and American cadets and thanked them for their participation. Events like these strengthen the bonds between the Brazilian-American communities in New York and the United States Military Academy.
