Secretary of the Army, Eric Fanning, presented The Secretary of the Army Award for Valor to USMA Historian Sherman Fleek on May 25 at the Pentagon. To be eligible for the award, the nominee must have distinguished themselves by exhibiting great courage or sacrifice involving heroism or bravery. Sherman Fleek did just that. While on leave in California in May of 2015, Fleek and a friend visited an I-HOP on a Sunday afternoon. As they waited for a table, Fleek heard screams from the next room and saw women running from their chairs.
