West Point Climbing Team travelled to San Diego to compete at the National Collegiate Climbing Championships. On the first day of competition, the team made it to the qualifiers round. All competitors climbed for 3 hours to complete up to 6 lead/top rope climbs, 8-12 boulder problems, and/or 2 speed climbs. During the next day of competition, CDT’s Amos Lee, Brian Hazen, Peter Mueller, Anthony Thompson, and Lyra Kwak competed in the morning at the speed finals against 10-15 different schools including Air Force. CDT Amos Lee ran a 6.36 speed climb placing him 4th overall in Men’s Speed Climbing. In the evening, all cadets attended the culminating event, the bouldering final. The team supported and cheered for CDT Julian Barker as he made more headway on all of the problems than any climber before him; CDT Barker placed 9th overall in Men’s Bouldering. The Army West Point Climbing Team came in 8th overall, defeating Air Force and Navy to win the Armed Forces Cup. The team placed 6 cadets in the top 20 in each of their respective disciplines.
