Earlier this month the Army West Point Sailing team hosted the first Rush-Bagot Cup between USMA and RMC Canada from Kingston, Ontario. The regatta was named after the Rush-Bagot Treaty signed in 1818, which demilitarized the border between Canada and the US along Lake Ontario, marking the beginning of the longstanding peaceful relationship between the US and Canada. Led by CDT Drew Beckmann, Army won the best of seven series, claiming four of the six races. Army West Point will retain the trophy until the teams meet again next year at Kingston. RMC’s Commandant, BG Al Meinzinger-RCAF and RMC’s Chief Warrant Officer, CPO1 Keith E. Davidson RCN, briefly visited the regatta to cheer on their school. After the racing, both teams met at the bowling alley on post to continue the competition over pizza and bowling, along with an awards ceremony. All together it was a successful weekend and the Army sailors earned a gold maple leaf to add to their black jackets.
