CARY, NC - The Army West Point baseball team earned its first win of the 2016 season with a 6-5 walkoff victory against Monmouth on Sunday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Center. Tied at 5 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning after Monmouth (1-3) tied the game on a two-out base hit by Robbie Allesandrine, Army (1-3) was able to push across the winning run on an error with two outs in the inning.
Justin Reece started the ninth with a single up the middle, but was retired on a fielder's choice with Josh White at the plate. White stole second off Monmouth lefty Kyle Ajjan, who walked Kris Lindner with first base unoccupied. White and Linder successfully executed a double steal with David Monge at the plate, but Monge struck out for the second out of the inning.
