Fencing Women Set Early Season Record

The women on the Army West Point Fencing team have set the highest early season record in recent years at 9-5, defeating opponents Lafayette College, City College, Yeshiva University, Queens College, Marist, Long Island University, and Hunter College, with defeats by Haverford College, the University of Florida and Vassar College. Leading the women is the Saber Weapon Squad with CDT Taylor Sharpsten (35-7) (an all-time record), along with CDT Bethany Forte (25-17). The Foil Weapon Squad is led by CDT Claudia Sun with a record of 35-7, a record in that weapon for the women as well. The entire team had the opportunity to honor Matt Lampell, Class of 1934, with an Army Sweatshirt and Hat, at the Hudson River Challenge. Matt, an alumnus of West Point and the Fencing Team, was the former Coach of Vassar College, and always enjoys time with the cadets.
