Army West Point football head coach Jeff Monken met with members of the local media on Tuesday afternoon for his weekly press conference inside Nowak Auditorium.

The Black Knights head into their second leg of a three-game road swing when they travel to Buffalo on Saturday afternoon for a noon kickoff on CBS Sports Network.

(Ref.: Opening statement)
"Good afternoon. We're getting ready for a rainy day of practice here to get prepared for Buffalo. We're coming off a really tough, emotional loss this past weekend. But it was a heck of a battle and Oklahoma's got a great team. They made some terrific plays down the stretch to beat us and got us stopped on offense. When we looked like we had a chance to have the winning drive there at the end, they made a stop and got the ball back. After going to overtime they again just made some plays down the stretch but it was a great effort by our team and I was really proud of them. The important thing for us is to transition to this week. We're playing an undefeated team again for the fifth week in a row so it certainly doesn't get any easier. This game will be a great challenge for us. We lost to them two years ago and we had to come from behind in the fourth quarter to win it last year. Read More

The West Point Band Performs and Teaches CadetsMembers of the West Point Band, led by MSG Michael Reifenberg, instructed cadets enrolled in Society and Culture in American History on the development of African American musical styles from 1850 to 1960. During their class, the Band provided live demonstrations on various musical styles to include Classic Blues, Boogie Woogie, Ragtime, Dixieland, and Bebop. The Band's performance and discussion gave cadets a better understanding of how and why African American music developed a distinct style and how it influenced American culture and society as a whole. The presentation fit into the larger theme of the class from the margins to mainstream. Through the course, cadets examine the history of American society and culture thematically by analyzing how and why the culture and ideas of marginal groups have been incorporated into mainstream American society. With the assistance and expertise of the West Point Band, the cadets walked away with a better understanding of this dynamic.

CDT Erynn Johns '21After a one-hour-and-32-minute lightning delay, the Army West Point women's soccer team outlasted Lafayette for a 1-0 victory at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field Wednesday evening. Yearling Erynn Johns came up with the game-deciding play in the 21st minute when she stole the ball off the foot of a Lafayette defender and dribbled around the Leopard player. The Austin, Texas, native then fired a shot from 18-yards out that crept past the outstretched hand of the goalkeeper and under the crossbar to give the Black Knights a 1-0 edge.

After controlling play for most of the first half, the home side saw Lafayette assert itself and possessed the ball through the first 20 minutes of the final period. That run came to an end with 35:02 remaining, however, when a lightning strike started a 1:32 delay. When the two sides returned to the field, the Cadets were able to regroup and prevent Lafayette from creating any more threatening scoring chances. Read More
