Radiography Project Utilizes Mailroom X-ray MachineTwo nuclear engineering majors utilized the x-ray machine in the military mailroom to further their research into establishing a radiography lab inside Bartlett Hall. While the Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering (PaNE) does not yet have an x-ray machine for the lab, cadets have utilized gamma sources and KACH facilities, along with a ScanX Scout computed radiography system to produce images of industrial items. The x-ray machine at the mailroom turned out to be unable to be used in academic desired ways because it is purpose built for parcel scanning. This experience with a different type of x-ray machine allows them to better understand what equipment should be procured for an industrial radiography capability in the House of PaNE.

On Point: First of ManyThe United States Military Academy has been in existence for more than 216 years and has had countless well-known graduates shape the foundation of this country. Because of that, there are limited chances to be the first person to accomplish a feat at the prolific institution nowadays. But for Army West Point Women's Lacrosse player Rachel Hornick, seizing unexpected moments have given her an opportunity to achieve that accomplishment.

The Calvert, Md., native has been etching her name into Army's records book since the program's inception prior to the 2016 school year. From scoring the team's first goal to becoming its first ever 100-point scorer, there is no disputing that Hornick has left her mark permanently.

Football Goes Full Contact on SaturdayThe Army West Point Football team participated in a full contact scrimmage on Saturday morning at Michie Stadium. The play was split evenly throughout the game between the offense and defense. The offense scored four touchdowns, while the defense forced three turnovers. Kelvin Hopkins Jr. got the first snaps at quarterback for the Black Knights and led the offense to an opening drive score with a 14-yard run up the middle to put the first points of the scrimmage on the board. There was a key fourth down conversion with Connor Slomka picking it up with a two-yard rush. The drive was impressive and covered 60 yards. The following possession was led by Cam Thomas and his first drive of the day didn't take long before the offense hit pay dirt. Thomas handed the ball off to Sandon McCoy and he busted through the middle and into the open for a 60-yard touchdown run. The offense was off to a great start, but the defense responded. Jon Rhattigan forced the first turnover of the scrimmage with a nice helmet-to-ball hit which put the ball on the ground and it was scooped up by Emmanuel Ukhueligbe to halt the third drive of the scrimmage. On the next drive, Kell Walker stepped in at quarterback and led the offense down the field until the drive stalled at the goal line as the defense stood strong. Walker got his revenge later with a touchdown run of about 40 yards to give the offense its third score of the day. Read More

Writing Leadership & Telling Your Story

$

Jointly sponsored by the Writing Program and Department of Behavioral Sciences & Leadership (BS&L), this Wednesday Night Workshop is geared toward anyone working on writing that blends the narration of personal experiences with analysis of the ideas and theories of others. Such writing situations routinely occur in BS&L core courses, culminating in the Leadership Philosophy Paper (LPP) for PL300, yet they also emerge in many other circumstances—for example, in some MX400 assignments or even in some personal statements for graduate schooling. Whether you're working on the LPP, or on any other piece that blends personal experiences with outside material, this workshop led by MAJ Andrew Eljdid will help you discover effective ways to tell the story. The MWC holds Wednesday Night Workshops virtually every Wednesday, 8pm – 9pm, in JH301; most are designed for cadets, but anyone is welcome to attend. A full schedule is available at usma.edu/wpwp.
